New General Manager

The Institute welcomed, on 17 March, Nigel Carpenter to the role of General Manager.

Nigel brings with him a wealth of knowledge and experience not only in the infrastructure industry, but also in membership and learning organisations. He understands our industry and the people that make it up; he understands not only the pressures on them but the aspirations they have.

Prior to joining ICI Nigel was the CEO of Sustainable Skills, a global NFP that developed, supported and assisted effective industry aligned technical and vocational education and training systems in middle income and developing countries. Sustainable Skills successfully delivered capacity building projects in Africa, South East Asia and the Pacific.

Sustainable Skills was born as a result of the transition that SkillsDMC undertook in 2016. SkillsDMC was the former national Industry Skills Council (ISC) for the resources and civil infrastructure industries where Nigel was the CEO.

Having been engaged in top-management roles across different industrial sectors, Nigel understands industry skills needs and the critical role of high-skilled workforces to enhance safety and productivity. He knows how to engage industry to ensure that training meets industry skills need.

Nigel said – “I’m very excited to join the Institute of Civil Infrastructure at a time when our industry needs to build skills. I’m looking forward to helping employers and people in the industry improve management standards and the continual professional learning of managers.”
